Dragonball Evolution (2009) Review

It's obviously not perfect and has a good amount of flaws but if you have no understanding of the DBZ verse then it can definitely come off as a decent watch.
On his 18th birthday, Goku (Justin Chatwin) receives a mystical Dragonball as a gift from his grandfather. There are only six others like it in the whole world, and legend has it that whomever possesses all seven will be granted one perfect wish. When the arrival of a dark force triggers a tragedy, Goku and his companions (Chow Yun-Fat, Emmy Rossum) are propelled into an epic quest to collect the seven Dragonballs and save the Earth from destruction.

The effects and dialogue are so hilarious to make fun of. However as funny as this movie is, it's still bad. The plot is a mess and the acting is below average.
Heroic Goku is a powerful warrior who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the Universe and controlling the mystical objects, the Dragonball. As the Master Roshi guides Goku on the young man's epic quest to save the Earth from the forces of darknes, he encounters Bulma, a beautiful woman intent on retrieving the mystical Dragonballs for her own reasons and Chi Chi, a young martial artist who captures Goku's eye. Perhaps I'm a cynical bastard, but less and less, I find myself being pleasantly surprised by my movie-going experiences. In this modern, Web-ridden era of ours, advanced reviews and an endless succession of trailers and marketing ploys have mastered the art of making a bad movie look good or a good movie look better, eliminating that too-rare experience of discovering that a film you initially thought would be crap was actually quite the opposite. So, with that in mind, Dragonball: Evolution was actually pretty entertaining.

It is a great idea but not a good movie it could have been an Oscar winning movie but no it has only gained disappointment to any dragon ball z fans or any one ...

The Dragonball series seems to be as popular as ever, with games still hitting stores in a yearly fashion and selling well, and it has finally spawned a live-action film entitled Dragonball Evolution. Of course, a movie release means that we now have a game based on the movie (which seems somewhat meta). Unfortunately, while the Dragonball games have largely been improving over time, reaching a point nowadays when they can be fun to even non-DBZ fans, Dragonball Evolution is a pile of trash.
